Substance Abuse Education & Assessment Resources in Indiana

If you or someone you are helping needs a substance abuse education course or assessment from a certified Indiana provider, here’s how to find the right services:

Finding Certified Services

Check Local Court Alcohol & Drug Program

Use the Court Alcohol & Drug Program directory to find out whether your county’s program is certified by the Indiana Office of Court Services (IOCS).

  • Call the program directly to ask about available assessments, education courses, or related services.
  • These programs may offer education or information courses (generally 8–20 hours) and limited assessments for people referred through the criminal justice system.
  • In many counties, services are provided only to individuals who are currently under probation or have been referred by a court.

If Your County Doesn’t Have a Certified Provider

If there’s no certified court program in your county or if the local program cannot provide the specific services you need:

  • Call the Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) referral line at 1-800-662-4357. They can help you find assessment and treatment providers that are certified to serve Indiana residents.
  • If you are a commercial driver license (CDL) holder (such as a truck driver) and need services that meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, use the DOT’s online provider locator to find DOT-approved service providers

What You Should Know

Certified Court Programs

Certified Court Programs

Certified Court Programs

The Indiana Office of Court Services (IOCS) certifies substance abuse programs connected with local courts. In many cases:

  • These programs are available in about half of Indiana’s counties.
  • Eligibility may depend on having a prior substance-related charge or conviction, or substance use being a contributing factor in an offense.
  • Most programs require that individuals complete a preliminary assessment before placement in an education or information course.

Separately, the Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) certifies a broader set of mental health and substance abuse treatment providers. These providers may offer:

  • Comprehensive assessments
  • Intensive outpatient therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Substance abuse education or information courses
DMHA services are typically available regardless of court involvement, but eligibility and program structure vary by provider.

Important Notes

Important Notes

Important Notes

  • Each state has its own addiction education and service requirements, which may affect licensing, CDL renewals, and other legal obligations—always verify that Indiana’s services meet your specific legal or licensing needs.

  • Indiana Office of Court Services and SR22 Insurance Indiana do not provide legal advice, access to individual court records, or direct service referrals for DUI resources.
